Kidz Bite Back is a kid-created, kid-led, kid-spread campaign that promotes improved nutrition and increased physical activity. But it does it in a different way than the standard approach of adults preaching to kids about eating better and exercising more (usually pointing a finger during the lecture). This standard approach of adults preaching to kids has been used for decades, and it simply doesn’t work. If it did, the United States would not have a childhood obesity epidemic.
Kidz Bite Back has several events through the course of the school year. To learn more, visit our Events Page.
We feel particularly excited about our 1st Annual Big Fat Confusion!?! contest that launched in the Spring of 2010. As part of this campaign, students, parents and educators had an opportunity to write a letter to The First Lady, Michelle Obama. Here is just a sample of these letters:
Carla, a parent from Robles Elementary writes: “It is not only kids that are confused by these ads, it's adults, too. Calorie amounts and distribution should be part of menus. If they have nothing to hide it won't hurt. It will help the students and adults in America make more informed, and hopefully more healthful choices.”
Rachel, a student from Forest City Elementary writes: “In FL ever since these campaigns have gone out I am on the way to a healthier me. I have been exercising, eating fruits and veggies, and cutting the TV time. It was hard, but when I found out that every time I get a Happy Meal I am putting over 500 calories in my body. I am looking up to the Kidz Bite Back handbook now. I am going to start a healthier me today!!!!”
Dianne, a parent from Highland Lakes Elementary writes: “I feel the fast food chains should write out information about their food. This nation is getting fatter every day and our children need to learn what is food is good for them and to exercise to keep fit.”
Taylor, a student from Orange Grove Elementary writes: “Dear Michelle Obama, You probably haven’t herd of Kidz Bite Back, but I’m going to tell you about it so you’ll know. Kidz Bite Back is a thing totally run by kids! It’s kind of like a club that wants to make a difference in the world. Both healthy, and environmentally. Kidz Bite Back has taught me how to stay healthy, and how to have a green thumb. Kidz Bite Back has affected me alot. Like instead of me playing games all day, now I go out of the house and play baseball, basketball, kickball and more! I think the best thing about Kidz Bite Back is how they change a person, so quickly, from couch potato, to athlete.”

Dirt Ball is Awesome ~ Adrian Arthur
Me and my friend played kickball and it was pretty fun until he won, but I was a good sport and shook his hand. It was a good game at first. My friend kicked the ball so far that I had to kick it up a notch! Lightening bolts shot out of my shoes as I ran and Man, it felt like I was flying! I got the ball and threw it as far and as fast as I could and hit the base. Then, I heard, “YOU’RE OUT”!!! That was awesome! That was my time with the Dirt Ball.
