Home | Photos | Stats How is the Kidz Bite Back campaign affecting you? My Thoughts on Kidz Bite Back By Hunter Perez I think every school should have Kidz Bite Back or at least be told some of the weird~but true facts. I used to eat fast food every day. But after I heard the facts I have changed my ways. Brieanna states "I think Kidz Bite Back is Awesome! Don't eat so much junk food, only every now and then." Xavier says "I think it's a great way to make kids think about The Big Fat Industries." "Kidz Bite Back is good for kids. Some kids eat too much and don't exercise, they think its okay and it is not! Kidz Bite Back tells us that."... Kirsten A Parent's Take on Kidz Bite Back My name is Roberta Smallwood, and my daughter Valerie Bello-Smallwood was involved in the Kidz Bite Back campaign through Dickenson Elementary in Tampa. I had the privilege of attending the presentation held at Dickenson in late 2007. At this presentation, I learned a lot about the food & drinks that I allowed my daughter (Valerie) to consume. Prior to the presentation, we had already started healthier eating at home due to family members being recently diagnosed with Diabetes. Diabetes is a very serious (non curable) illness, with which children and adults alike are being diagnosed with daily. Although I thought I knew quite a bit regarding the food I have been purchasing, I was not aware of how long it would take our bodies to break down and process certain foods, or how many calories certain items contained. As our days consist of rushing to and from school/daycare/work etc., I enjoyed hearing how much exercise it would take to burn off cookies/chips etc. What a wakeup call! I feel that the Kidz Bite Back campaign plays a vital part in what our children choose to eat, as my daughter (Valerie) often reminds me of how bad certain food is for our bodies. She is only 10 years old, however; is now well educated on the ins and outs of healthier eating due to this campaign. I would like to thank the children who participated in the campaign and for all our other children who went home and educated their family on what they had learned. This is a great campaign for all and who ever originally thought up the idea to go to our children's schools and educate them should be commended. The best way to get information/ education around is not through the parents at all, it is best taught and remembered instead through our children. Sincerely; Roberta Smallwood Dickenson PTA/ Parent |
